Samsung’s compact clamshell foldable line may be approaching its final chapter, according to a new claim from well-known tipster Ice Universe. The leaker suggests the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 could turn out to be the company’s last small-form-factor foldable phone, a claim that, if accurate, would represent a meaningful shift in Samsung’s long-term foldable strategy.
Despite the speculation, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 itself remains on track. Samsung is still expected to unveil the device at its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, alongside several other new products.
In a post shared on X, Ice Universe indicated that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is likely to be Samsung’s final small foldable product. The way the claim was worded suggests this isn’t presented as a done deal — rather, it reads more like insider speculation that Samsung’s internal plans could still shift before anything becomes official.

One additional detail worth noting: if this claim holds true, it could also mean Samsung skips releasing a Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE (Fan Edition) model down the line, though the tipster’s post didn’t specifically reference a Fan Edition variant one way or another.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 isn’t launching in isolation. Samsung is expected to introduce it alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and a new lineup of Galaxy Watch smartwatches, all at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 22. That means even if this is indeed the final Flip model, Samsung’s broader foldable and wearable strategy will still be very much in motion.
Ahead of the official reveal, earlier reports have already given a fairly detailed picture of what the Galaxy Z Flip 8 might look like. The phone is tipped to come in Cream, Graphite, and Pink color options, with a fourth Mint variant said to be in development as well.
Design-wise, the Z Flip 8 is expected to largely retain the look of its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Reported specifications include a 6.9-inch foldable inner display, a 4.1-inch external cover screen, a 50-megapixel primary rear camera, and a 4,300mAh battery.
While Samsung has made no official statement about discontinuing the Galaxy Z Flip series, Ice Universe has built a strong track record over the years for accurately predicting Samsung’s product plans well ahead of launch. That history doesn’t guarantee this particular claim is correct, but it does explain why the leak is generating attention within the tech community despite the lack of any confirmation from Samsung itself.
The Galaxy Z Flip series has been one of Samsung’s most recognizable foldable products since its debut, helping popularize the compact clamshell form factor even as larger book-style foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold line have grown in popularity. It’s also worth noting that Samsung isn’t the only company betting on this design: Motorola continues to release its own flip-style foldables, suggesting there’s still meaningful consumer demand for compact folding phones, even if Samsung were to eventually step back from the category.
