Redmi has launched the Redmi 17 5G in China on Thursday, following shortly after the unveiling of the Redmi Note 17 lineup. The new smartphone is currently available for purchase in China through the company’s official website, offered in three color options and two RAM and storage configurations, positioning it as a genuinely budget-focused option within Redmi’s broader lineup.
Redmi 17 5G Specifications, Features
The Redmi 17 5G starts at CNY 999, roughly Rs. 14,000, for the base variant featuring 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Stepping up, the top-end configuration with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at CNY 1,199, roughly Rs. 17,000.
The device is currently on sale in China through the Xiaomi online store, available in three color options: Cold Mist Blue, Feather Mist White, and Star Rock Black.
Software
The Redmi 17 5G is a dual-SIM device that ships with Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS 3, built on top of Android 16, keeping it current with Xiaomi’s newest software platform.
Display: A Large 6.9-Inch Panel With Wet-Touch Support
The handset features a 6.9-inch HD LCD touchscreen with a 720 x 1,600 pixel resolution, supporting up to a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate for responsive input. The display offers peak brightness of up to 800 nits, along with DC Dimming, a technology that helps reduce screen flicker at lower brightness levels compared to standard PWM dimming methods.
Notably, the display also includes Wet Touch 2.0, which improves touchscreen responsiveness when the display is wet or being used with damp fingers, a genuinely practical feature for everyday reliability, especially at this price point where such features aren’t always included.
Performance and Storage
Under the hood, the Redmi 17 5G is powered by an octa-core Unisoc T8300 chipset, built on a 6nm manufacturing process, reaching a claimed peak clock speed of up to 2.2GHz. The chipset is paired with a Mali G57 GPU, alongside up to 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 onboard storage.
Camera Setup
For photography, the Redmi 17 5G keeps things simple with a single 13-megapixel rear camera, paired with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls, specifications that reflect the device’s clear positioning as a budget-focused smartphone rather than one prioritizing photography.
Battery and Charging
Battery life is a genuine highlight here, with the Redmi 17 5G backed by a substantial 6,300mAh battery. The device supports 15W wired charging, along with 7.5W wired reverse charging, allowing it to charge other small devices when needed, even if charging speeds themselves remain fairly modest by current standards.
Connectivity and Sensors
On connectivity, the Redmi 17 5G supports 5G and 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, and includes a USB Type-C port. For navigation, it supports GPS, Galileo, and QZSS. The onboard sensor suite includes an ambient light sensor, an accelerometer, and an e-compass, covering the essential sensors expected even on budget-tier devices.

The Redmi 17 5G measures 171.56 x 79.47 x 8.15mm and weighs approximately 210 grams.
