Realme recently confirmed it’s pausing all new smartphone launches in the Chinese market, choosing instead to shift its focus toward strengthening its position in global markets, according to comments from a company executive. Now, fresh details about Realme’s future device lineup have surfaced, suggesting the company won’t be launching new Realme GT or Realme Neo series phones globally this year.
Instead, Realme’s numbered series phones are expected to take over as the primary lineup internationally, effectively replacing both the GT and Neo series for the time being. Beyond smartphones, the company is also reportedly planning new audio products and a dedicated gaming-focused device. This shift comes on the heels of a broader company restructuring, during which several Realme business divisions were absorbed by parent company Oppo.
Realme GT 8 Pro and Neo 8 Successors Reportedly Shelved
According to a Weibo post from tipster Digital Chat Station, Realme will not be launching successors to its GT and Neo series smartphones in global markets. To fill that gap in its lineup, the company is reportedly planning to lean more heavily on its numbered series devices going forward.
Alongside smartphones, Realme is also said to be preparing new audio products for select international markets. There’s also speculation that the company may introduce a new performance-oriented gaming tablet aimed at a global audience, expanding beyond its traditional smartphone-focused product lineup.
Why Realme Is Pulling Back From China
This development comes roughly a week after Realme President Xu Qi Chase announced that the company would be pausing new smartphone launches within China entirely. According to Xu, Realme plans to redirect its resources toward building out its global market presence, with particular emphasis on performance and gaming-oriented devices.
As part of this shift, Realme also confirmed that its existing smartphone lineup will transition from Realme UI to Oppo’s ColorOS software, with Oppo taking over after-sales support and software servicing going forward. According to the tipster, Realme’s remaining product stock in China is expected to last until around November.
A Broader Software Transition Across Xiaomi’s Rivals
This isn’t an isolated move. A separate report recently indicated that Realme India is also planning to transition its existing smartphone lineup in the country over to Oppo’s ColorOS, a shift expected to be completed alongside the rollout of ColorOS 17, which is based on Android 17.
Realme isn’t alone in this transition, either. OnePlus has similarly confirmed that its devices will move from OxygenOS to Oppo’s ColorOS, also adopting the Android 17-based ColorOS 17 update. Both moves follow Realme’s broader restructuring in China, during which several of its operational divisions and business verticals were absorbed directly into Oppo.
Realme’s Most Recent GT and Neo Series Phones
The most recent devices in these two lineups were the Realme Neo 8 and Realme GT 8 Pro. The Realme Neo 8 launched in China on January 22 at a starting price of CNY 2,399, roughly Rs. 33,000, for the base configuration with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The device features a 6.78-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,272 x 2,772 pixels, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset and backed by a substantial 8,000mAh battery.
What This Means for Realme Fans
If these reports hold true, fans of Realme’s GT and Neo series may need to look toward the company’s numbered lineup for similar performance-focused hardware going forward, at least for markets outside China. Combined with the broader ColorOS transition across both Realme and OnePlus, it’s clear that Oppo’s restructuring is having a significant ripple effect across its various sub-brands, consolidating both software platforms and product strategy under a more unified approach.
