Huawei made a splash earlier this year with the launch of the MatePad Pro Max, a premium tablet built around a large 13.2-inch OLED display. Now, according to a new leak, the company appears to be developing a more compact variant of the same tablet, aimed at buyers who want the flagship experience in a smaller, more portable form factor.
A Mysterious Tablet Codenamed “Dali”
The claim comes from tipster Fixed Focus Digital, who shared details in a Weibo post (translated from Chinese) stating that Huawei is currently developing a new tablet internally codenamed Dali. According to the leak, this model is expected to be a scaled-down version of the existing MatePad Pro Max, built on similar underlying hardware and software but housed in a smaller, more compact chassis.
The post reportedly includes older listings that reference the Dali codename, hinting that the tablet may adopt a form factor closer to something like the iPad Pro’s smaller variants — more pocketable and travel-friendly than the current 13.2-inch model. The leaker suggests this smaller MatePad could be officially unveiled sometime later this year, though it’s worth treating that timeline as speculative until Huawei confirms anything directly.
At this stage, no concrete details have emerged about the smaller model’s display size, battery capacity, camera setup, or pricing. Given how early these reports are, it’s likely still too soon for Huawei to have finalized every spec, and details could shift considerably before any official unveiling.
What the Existing MatePad Pro Max Offers

Hardware-wise, the current model runs on HarmonyOS 4.3 and features a 13.2-inch flexible OLED panel with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, capable of reaching up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness — figures that put it in the same league as top-tier tablets from other major manufacturers. It’s available with up to 512GB of onboard storage, and battery life is handled by a substantial 10,400mAh cell that supports 66W wired fast charging.
On the camera front, the MatePad Pro Max includes a 50-megapixel rear sensor along with a 12-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls. Audio is handled through a six-speaker setup tuned in partnership with Huawei Sound, and the tablet supports Huawei’s own accessory ecosystem, including the M-Pencil Pro stylus and the Glide Keyboard.
What a Smaller Version Could Mean for Buyers
