Connecting your Facebook Page to your Instagram account is one of the most important setup steps for any business, creator, or brand using Meta’s platforms. Without this connection, you are locked out of some of the most powerful features available across Facebook and Instagram — including running Instagram ads through Meta Ads Manager, cross-posting content between platforms, using a shared inbox in Meta Business Suite, product tagging on Instagram Shopping, and publishing through third-party scheduling tools.

The connection is the foundation that the entire Meta advertising and business toolset is built on, and without it, you are locked out of features that directly affect your revenue. Without this connection, Meta Ads Manager cannot place ads on Instagram through your Page.

The good news is that the connection itself takes less than five minutes — once you know exactly where to go. The challenge is that Meta has restructured these settings multiple times in recent years, and many older guides send you to menus that no longer exist or work differently in 2026.

This guide gives you the most current, verified steps for connecting your Facebook Page to Instagram in 2026 — including three different methods depending on your setup, what to do after connecting, and how to fix every common error people encounter.

Why Connect Your Facebook Page to Instagram?

Before diving into the steps, here is exactly what this connection unlocks:

Instagram Ads Through Meta Ads Manager Without this connection, Meta Ads Manager cannot place ads on Instagram through your Page. If you want to run Instagram ads — whether through a standalone Instagram campaign or as part of a cross-platform Meta campaign — the Page-to-Instagram connection is mandatory.

Cross-Posting Content Once connected, you can share Facebook Page posts directly to Instagram and vice versa with a single tap — saving significant time if you manage content across both platforms.

Shared Inbox in Meta Business Suite A connected account gives you a unified inbox that combines your Facebook Page messages and Instagram DMs in one place — making customer communication dramatically more manageable.

Instagram Shopping and Product Tagging Connecting your Page is a prerequisite for setting up Instagram Shopping and tagging products in posts and Stories.

Third-Party Scheduling Tool Access Most social media scheduling platforms — Buffer, Later, Hootsuite, and others — require the Page-to-Instagram connection before they can publish to your Instagram account.

Easier Team Access Management By linking Instagram to a Facebook Page, you can grant partners access through Facebook Page roles or a Meta Business Portfolio instead of handing over login credentials. That means if a freelancer leaves or a contract ends, you can revoke access instantly.

Requirements: What You Need Before You Start

Two requirements must be in place before you can connect your accounts:

1. An Instagram Professional Account

Your Instagram must be a professional account (Business or Creator) — not Personal. Personal accounts cannot be connected to a Facebook Page.

To check or switch your account type:

 • Open Instagram → tap your profile picture → tap Edit profile → scroll down and look for Account type
 • Or go to Settings → Account → Switch Account Type

If your account is still Personal, switch it to Creator or Business first. The switch is free, takes under a minute, and does not affect your existing content, followers, or username.

2. Admin Access to the Facebook Page

You must be an Admin of the Facebook Page — Editor or Analyst roles are not enough.

To check your role: go to your Facebook Page → click Settings → click Page Access or Page Roles → confirm your account is listed as Admin.

If you are not an Admin, ask the Page owner to grant you Admin access before proceeding.

Important: Page Connection vs. Accounts Center — Know the Difference

Meta has restructured where this setting lives at least three times in the past two years. One of the most common points of confusion is the difference between two separate types of connection:

Accounts Center — this links your personal Facebook profile to your personal Instagram account. It manages shared logins and personal content sharing. This is NOT the same as connecting a Facebook Page to Instagram.

Page-Level Connection — this is the business connection that links a Facebook Page to a professional Instagram account. This is what enables ads, shared inbox, cross-posting, and all the business tools.

The Page link does not live in Accounts Center. Accounts Center handles logins and sharing between your personal Facebook profile and Instagram, not Page connections.

If you logged in through Accounts Center, that is why you cannot see why your Instagram is still greyed out in Ads Manager. The kind of connection matters.

Make sure you are using the correct method for a Page-level connection — all three methods below achieve this correctly.

Method 1: Connect From the Instagram App (Recommended — Fastest)

The fastest current way: open the Instagram app, go to your profile, tap Edit profile, and under Public business information tap Page.

This is the easiest method for most users and works directly from your phone.

Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your Android or iPhone. Make sure you are logged into your Instagram professional account.

Step 2: Tap your profile picture in the bottom right corner to go to your profile page.

Step 3: Tap Edit profile.

Step 4: Scroll down to find the Public business information section (for Business accounts) or Profile information section (for Creator accounts). Tap Page.

Step 5: Tap Connect or create on the screen that appears, then tap Continue.

Step 6: Tap Login to Facebook. You will be prompted to log in to the Facebook account that has Admin access to your Page. Log in if you are not already.

Step 7: A list of Facebook Pages you manage will appear. Tap the Page you want to connect to this Instagram account.

Step 8: Tap Connect to confirm the link.

Your Facebook Page and Instagram account are now connected. You will see the Page name displayed in your Instagram Edit Profile screen confirming the connection.

Tip: When switching to a Professional account for the first time, Instagram may automatically prompt you to connect a Facebook Page. You can complete the connection during that setup or follow the steps above later.

Method 2: Connect From Your Facebook Page Settings (Desktop)

If you prefer to manage the connection from the Facebook side — or if Method 1 is not working for you — this desktop method achieves the same result.

Step 1: Open your browser and go to facebook.com. Log in to the Facebook account that has Admin access to your Page.

Step 2: Navigate to your Facebook Page. If you are viewing your personal profile, click the profile switcher icon in the top-right and select your Page from the dropdown to switch into the Page view.

Step 3: Once you are viewing the Page as an admin, click Settings from the left-hand sidebar or the top navigation menu.

Step 4: Scroll down within Settings to find the Linked Accounts section. Click it, then select Instagram from the list of platforms.

Step 5:</If your Instagram username already appears here, your accounts are already linked — you are done. If you see a Connect button, click it to proceed.

Step 6: A prompt will appear asking you to allow access to Instagram’s messaging inbox — click Allow, then Confirm. This enables the unified inbox.

Step 7: A login window will open asking you to log in to your Instagram professional account. Enter your Instagram credentials and complete the login.

Step 8: Select the Instagram account you want to connect and confirm the link.

Your Page and Instagram account are now connected from the Facebook side.

Method 3: Connect Through Meta Business Suite

If you manage your business assets through Meta Business Suite, you can connect the accounts there as well. This is particularly useful for businesses managing multiple Pages or Instagram accounts under one Business Portfolio.

Step 1: Go to business.facebook.com and log in. Make sure you are logged into the Facebook account with Admin access to your Page.

Step 2: In the left sidebar, click Settings.

Step 3: Click Accounts → then click Instagram accounts.

Step 4: Click Add or Connect an Instagram Account.

Step 5: Log in to your Instagram professional account when prompted.

Step 6: Select the Instagram account to connect and confirm.

Step 7: Choose your sharing preferences — whether to cross-post Stories, share feed posts to Facebook, and similar options.

Your Instagram account is now connected to your Facebook Page through Meta Business Suite.

What to Do After Connecting Your Facebook Page to Instagram

Most guides stop at the connection step. But the connection itself is just the beginning. Here is what to set up and check immediately after the connection is confirmed:

1. Verify the Connection in Meta Ads Manager

If your goal was to run Instagram ads, verify the connection is working correctly:

 1. Go to adsmanager.facebook.com
 2. Create or open a campaign and proceed to the Ad Set level
 3. Under Placements, check that Instagram placements are no longer greyed out
 4. If Instagram placements are available, your connection is working correctly for advertising

2. Set Up Your Shared Inbox in Meta Business Suite

 1. Go to business.facebook.com → click Inbox in the left sidebar
 2. You should see both your Facebook Page messages and Instagram DMs in a single unified inbox
 3. Configure notifications and response settings as needed

3. Enable Cross-Posting

To share content between platforms:

 1. When creating a Facebook post, look for the Share to Instagram option
 2. When posting on Instagram, look for the option to share to your connected Facebook Page
 3. In Meta Business Suite’s Planner, you can schedule and publish to both platforms simultaneously

4. Check Your Cross-Posting Preferences

Choose your sharing preferences: whether to cross-post Stories, share feed posts to Facebook, and similar options.

To set these:

 1. In Meta Business Suite → Settings → Instagram accounts
 2. Adjust cross-posting and sharing preferences to match your content strategy

How to Disconnect Your Facebook Page From Instagram

If you ever need to remove the connection — for example, if you are changing Pages or handing over management — here is how to disconnect:

From Instagram:

 1. Open Instagram → tap profile picture → Edit profile
 2. Scroll to Public business information → tap Page
 3. Tap the connected Page name → tap Disconnect Page → confirm

From Meta Business Suite:

 1. Go to business.facebook.com → Settings → Accounts → Instagram accounts
 2. Find the connected Instagram account → click Remove → confirm

Important:Disconnecting stops cross-posting, the shared inbox, and Shopping tags. Make sure you are ready to lose these features before disconnecting./p>

Troubleshooting Common Connection Issues

I cannot find the “Page” option in Instagram Edit Profile

This means your Instagram account is still set to Personal — Personal accounts cannot connect to a Facebook Page. Switch to a Business or Creator account first:

Go to Instagram → Settings → Account → Switch to Professional Account → complete the setup → then return to Edit Profile to find the Page option.

The Page I want to connect is not showing in the list

This means you do not have Admin access to that Page. Only Pages where you have Admin (full control) role will appear. Ask the Page owner to grant you Admin access in Facebook Page Settings → Page Access → Add New.

Instagram is still greyed out in Meta Ads Manager after connecting

This is the most common post-connection issue and is almost always caused by using Accounts Center instead of a proper Page-level connection. If you logged in through Accounts Center, that is why you cannot see why your Instagram is still greyed out in Ads Manager. The kind of connection matters.

Fix: Disconnect any Accounts Center link and use Method 1 or Method 2 above to create the correct Page-level connection. Then refresh Ads Manager and check placements again.

I get an error when trying to log in to Facebook during the Instagram connection

 • Make sure you are logging in to the correct Facebook account — the one that is an Admin of the Page you want to connect
 • Try logging out of Facebook completely → clear your browser cache → log back in → then attempt the connection again
 • If using the Instagram app method, try the Facebook Page Settings method (Method 2) instead — sometimes switching platforms resolves login flow issues

I connected the accounts but cross-posting is not working

Check your cross-posting preferences in Meta Business Suite (Settings → Instagram accounts → sharing preferences). Make sure cross-posting is enabled for the content types you want to share. Also ensure you are publishing from Meta Business Suite’s Planner rather than directly from the individual apps, as the Planner has the most reliable cross-posting integration.

Can I connect one Instagram account to multiple Facebook Pages?

In 2026, the connection is a one-to-one link between one Page and one Instagram account. One Instagram account can only be connected to one Facebook Page at a time. To connect a different Page, you must first disconnect the existing one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Business Instagram account to connect to a Facebook Page?

Yes. Your Instagram must be a professional account (Business or Creator) — not Personal. Personal accounts cannot be connected to a Facebook Page. Switch to a professional account through Instagram Settings first.

Can I run Instagram ads without connecting my Facebook Page?

No. Without this connection, Meta Ads Manager cannot place ads on Instagram through your Page. The Page-to-Instagram connection is a mandatory prerequisite for Instagram advertising through Meta Ads Manager.

What is the difference between Accounts Center and the Page connection?

Accounts Center links your personal Facebook profile to your personal Instagram for login convenience and personal content sharing. The Page connection links your Facebook Page (a business asset) to your professional Instagram account and enables ads, shared inbox, cross-posting, and business tools. They are separate connections serving different purposes.

How do I know if my Facebook Page and Instagram are already connected?

Open Instagram → Edit profile → scroll to Public business information → tap Page. If a Page name is displayed there, your accounts are already connected. Alternatively, check in Meta Business Suite under Settings → Instagram accounts.

Will connecting my Facebook Page to Instagram affect my followers?

No. Connecting the accounts does not affect your followers, your existing content, your username, or your engagement in any way. It is purely a backend connection that enables additional features.

Can I cross-post all types of Instagram content to Facebook?

Most content types — feed posts, Reels, and Stories — can be cross-posted, subject to your sharing preferences settings. Some content formats may have limitations based on aspect ratio or duration differences between the two platforms.

Is it free to connect my Facebook Page to Instagram?

Yes, completely free. The connection itself has no cost. Features enabled by the connection — such as Instagram advertising — do involve spending your own ad budget, but the connection process itself is free.

What happens to the connection if I change my Facebook Page name?

Changing your Page name does not break the connection. The connection is tied to the Page’s underlying ID, not its display name. Your Instagram account remains connected to the same Page even after a name change.

Can a Facebook Group be connected to Instagram instead of a Page?

No. Only Facebook Pages can be connected to Instagram accounts. Facebook Groups do not support the Instagram connection feature.

How long does it take for the connection to activate?

The connection is typically instant — features like cross-posting and shared inbox should be available within a few minutes of connecting. Instagram ad placements in Meta Ads Manager may take up to a few hours to fully activate after the connection is made.
