Xiaomi has officially introduced its first power bank built to comply with China’s newly updated national safety standard for portable chargers. Announced on July 15, the new Xiaomi Power Bank with Built-in Cable 20000mAh 22.5W will become available across all sales channels starting July 22, priced at 149 CNY, roughly $21. The launch reflects a broader industry shift toward stricter battery safety requirements in China, following heightened scrutiny of power bank safety in recent years.

What Makes This Power Bank Different

Beyond just capacity and charging speed, Xiaomi is positioning this power bank around enhanced safety engineering and smarter battery management, features designed to address common concerns around lithium battery devices, particularly as regulatory standards around portable batteries have tightened.

Technical Specifications and Safety Testing

The power bank combines two 10,000mAh cells to deliver its total 20,000mAh capacity, while keeping the overall design relatively compact. According to Xiaomi, the device has passed a series of rigorous safety and durability tests aligned with the updated national standard, including:

  • A 4mm nail penetration test to evaluate how the battery responds to physical puncture damage
  • A high-temperature thermal chamber test conducted at 135°C to assess heat tolerance
  • Overcharge testing at 1.3 times the rated capacity, designed to verify charging safety under stress conditions

  • A compression test involving roughly 1.4 tons of force, meant to simulate physical impact or crushing scenarios
  • A 300-cycle charge-discharge aging test, paired with lithium precipitation analysis to monitor long-term battery degradation

Together, these tests are designed to reduce the risk of common battery hazards such as overheating, punctures, and overcharging, concerns that have become more prominent industry-wide following isolated incidents involving portable battery devices.

In addition to physical safety testing, the power bank includes smart battery management features, allowing users to view real-time battery health data and track battery performance over time through an interactive interface, giving users more visibility into the condition of their device than a typical power bank offers.

Pricing and Availability

  • Device Model: Xiaomi Power Bank with Built-in Cable 20000mAh 22.5W
  • Launch Date: July 22, 2026
  • Price: 149 CNY (approximately $21 USD)
  • Key Features: Built-in charging cable, intelligent battery health monitoring, compliance with China’s updated national safety standard

Why the Built-In Cable Design Matters

One of the more practical upgrades here is the built-in charging cable, which removes the need to carry a separate cable alongside the power bank itself, a small but genuinely useful convenience for everyday users who often find themselves without a cable when they need one most. Combined with the safety certifications, Xiaomi is clearly positioning this as both a practical and a reassurance-focused product, aimed at users who want a reliable charging accessory without worrying about battery safety.

At its price point of roughly $21, the power bank looks well positioned as an affordable, accessible option within Xiaomi’s broader accessory ecosystem, particularly for buyers in China, where it will be available first.

Building on Xiaomi’s Existing Power Bank Lineup

This isn’t Xiaomi’s first attempt at a built-in cable power bank. The company previously released the Xiaomi Power Bank with Built-in Cable 20000mAh 22.5W (2026 model), which featured a 2C+1A charging port configuration and launched at the same 149 CNY price point. That earlier model helped establish Xiaomi’s approach to combining convenience-focused design with solid charging performance, and this newly announced version builds directly on that foundation while adding compliance with the latest national safety requirements.

What This Means for Xiaomi Users

As battery safety regulations continue to evolve, particularly in China, this launch signals that Xiaomi is proactively updating its accessory lineup to stay ahead of compliance requirements rather than waiting for mandates to force design changes. For everyday users, the combination of a built-in cable, extensive safety testing, and real-time battery health tracking makes this power bank a compelling, budget-friendly option, assuming it becomes available in more markets beyond its initial China launch.
