Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 appears to achieve significant increases in battery life according to newly published data from Europe’s official energy labeling database (EPREL). Based on EPREL figures, Galaxy Z Fold8 users should enjoy 49 hours and 10 minutes of battery endurance rating while higher end models like Z Fold8 Ultra can extend it even further by 51 hours!

What Is EPREL and Why It Is Significant

EPREL is the European Product Registration and Evaluation Laboratory’s official energy labeling database used for consumer electronics products sold within Europe. Since 2025, all smartphones sold within EU have undergone standardised tests before hitting store shelves; manufacturers must publish key performance metrics related to battery endurance, energy efficiency, repairability, drop resistance and overall battery lifespan before selling to European consumers.

EPREL battery endurance figures stand out as being different than typical manufacturer marketing claims in that they provide more comprehensive measurements that assess battery endurance under real world usage patterns, including web browsing, video playback, streaming video content and gaming as well as voice calls messaging and standby time usage patterns. Since all smartphones sold within Europe are tested according to this protocol and so comparison between devices or brands should be much simpler with EPREL data being an accurate way of comparing battery lifespan.

Galaxy Z Fold8 vs. Fold7: A Clear Improvement

Here’s how the newly listed figures compare against the outgoing Galaxy Z Fold7:

Model Battery EPREL Endurance
Galaxy Z Fold7 4,400mAh 40 hours 28 minutes
Galaxy Z Fold8 4,800mAh 49 hours 10 minutes
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra 5,000mAh 51 hours

Based on these figures, the Galaxy Z Fold8 adds nearly nine extra hours of battery endurance compared to its predecessor phone; an increase of more than 21% over just one generational upgrade – particularly impressive considering internal space is often limited when dealing with foldable phones compared to traditional slab phones.

Why This Matters for Buyers of Foldable Phones

Battery life has traditionally been one of the primary complaints about foldable phones due to internal space restrictions created by folding hinge mechanisms and dual-screen designs. A significant jump in EPREL-tested endurance, as opposed to just an increase in raw battery capacity alone, suggests Samsung may have made genuine gains in power efficiency alongside their relatively modest capacity increase rather than solely depending on larger batteries as an explanation for improvements.

If these EPREL figures hold once retail units become widely available and tested independently by reviewers, this would represent a meaningful step forward for Samsung’s foldable lineup this generation and address one of their existing Fold series owners’ most persistent pain points when upgrading.

What to Expect Next

Since EPREL listings tend to appear before an official retail release of any device, these figures suggest the Galaxy Z Fold8 series may soon make its official retail debut. Although real world battery performance will depend on individual usage habits and could differ significantly from pre-release data figures; once widely available it would be wise to keep an eye out for independent reviews to observe whether retail performance closely mirrors these official EU testing figures.
