Samsung has been reported to be considering moving away from Exynos chipsets on its coming Galaxy A18 series phones, using MediaTek processors, similar as those found in the A16 4G and A17 models. 5G versions will utilize Qualcomm Snapdragon chips instead of Exynos 1330 chip that was used in the previous models of 5G.
According to reports, Exynos switched to Qualcomm to their phone with 5G was driven through cost-control rather than the performance improvement, but Qualcomm is renowned for its better connectivity and efficiency in 5G networks. It also provides customers with a better experience when compared with Exynos-powered phones.
Production schedules have already started developing. Production of the A18 4G (model SM-A185F) could start as soon in August 2026, with a total of the production of 100k units per month and then increasing in size as time passes. The 5G version is expected to be released several months after.
The full specifications are not been revealed yet However, the A18 is expected to carry on the tradition of high-quality devices that have 90Hz refresh rates on Super AMOLED displays and 50MP main cameras. It also comes with 25W battery charging and IP54 rating – similar to what its predecessor, the A17 was also equipped with. Notable was the commitment of Samsung to security and software patches for a prolonged time period of six years; a aspect that is appreciated by buyers with lower budgets.
Development of the firmware to support A18 4G has begun. A18 4G has begun in the beginning and is expected to launch in Android 17 in the coming days with One UI 9. This would include modern AI features, as and a new experience starting from day one and possibly enhanced performance or design enhancements.
