Qualcomm is expected to unveil its next generation of flagship mobile chipsets, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, this September. Ahead of the official announcement, a new leak from TelecomTalk has revealed expected specifications for both chips, giving an early look at what smartphone manufacturers, and eventually consumers, can expect from Qualcomm’s next flagship silicon.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6: Expected Specifications

According to the leak, the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is expected to be built using TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process, a meaningful step up in fabrication technology that typically brings improvements in both power efficiency and performance density compared to previous process nodes.

The chip is also tipped to include an Adreno 845 GPU, handling graphics processing for gaming and other visually intensive tasks, along with support for LPDDR5X memory, keeping it in line with current high-end memory standards.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro: A More Advanced Variant

The Pro variant is expected to push further on several fronts. Like the standard model, it’s also expected to use TSMC’s 2nm process, though the leak specifically points to a rumored N2P variation of that node, an enhanced version of TSMC’s 2nm process that typically offers additional performance or efficiency refinements over the base N2 node.

Performance-wise, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is tipped to reach CPU clock speeds of up to 5.0GHz, a notably high figure for a mobile chipset. It’s expected to pair with an upgraded Adreno 850 GPU, offering stronger graphics performance than the standard Gen 6 variant.

On the memory front, the Pro model is rumored to support LPDDR6 memory alongside UFS 5.0 storage, both representing next-generation standards that haven’t yet become common across the smartphone industry. If accurate, devices using this chip would be among the first to support these newer memory and storage technologies.

The leak also points to broader improvements across AI processing, ray tracing capabilities, and thermal efficiency for the Pro variant, suggesting Qualcomm is focusing on well-rounded performance gains rather than just raw clock speed increases.

Qualcomm’s Apparent Focus: Efficiency Over Raw Power

Based on these leaked details, Qualcomm appears to be prioritizing efficiency and sustained performance over simply chasing larger CPU performance gains this generation. This approach makes sense given the broader industry trend toward smaller manufacturing processes, where raw clock speed increases often come with diminishing returns unless paired with genuine efficiency improvements, particularly important for maintaining performance during extended use without excessive heat buildup or battery drain.

This focus on thermal efficiency and sustained performance, rather than just peak benchmark numbers, could translate into real-world benefits for smartphone buyers, such as more consistent gaming performance during long sessions or better battery life during demanding tasks, even if headline benchmark scores don’t show dramatic year-over-year jumps.

What This Means for Upcoming Flagship Phones

With Qualcomm’s official unveiling expected this September, smartphone manufacturers are likely already finalizing devices built around these new chipsets. Given the timing, it’s likely that several flagship phones launching in late 2026 and early 2027 will feature either the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 or Gen 6 Pro, depending on how manufacturers choose to position their various device tiers.

As with all pre-launch chip leaks, these specifications should be treated as unconfirmed until Qualcomm makes an official announcement, though the level of detail included in this particular leak suggests development is likely in its later stages ahead of the September reveal.
