According to Dutch publication Galaxy Club, Samsung is currently testing versions of the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ equipped with a 50-megapixel Sony sensor for their primary rear camera. If this report holds true, it would mark the first time in over a decade that Samsung has used a non-ISOCELL sensor for the main camera on a Galaxy S-series flagship.
For context, Samsung’s own ISOCELL sensor technology has been a staple of its flagship camera systems since the Galaxy S5, which launched back in 2015 as the company’s first smartphone to feature a 16-megapixel ISOCELL camera. Every Galaxy S-series model since then has continued using ISOCELL sensors for its primary camera, making this potential shift to a Sony sensor a fairly significant departure from over ten years of established camera hardware strategy.
