New Samsung Leak Reveals Galaxy Z Fold 6 Redesign
The Galaxy Z Fold series features a revolutionary folding display; Samsung is planning a redesign for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Folding phones have traditionally been as thick as regular smartphones when unfolded, but when closed, they become bulky and resemble a brick from 2003.
Since the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, several other foldable devices from Oppo, OnePlus, and Honor have been introduced with different form factors, featuring user interface-friendly screen ratios and thinner designs. When compared to these newer competitors, the Z Fold 5 appears to be rather bulky.
It seems that Samsung is working on reducing the physical size of their flagship foldable devices. The thickness of the upcoming Z Fold 5 is expected to be reduced by 25%, from 16mm to 11mm. If this happens, it would make the Z Fold 6 the thinnest Samsung foldable device yet, as well as thinner than similar devices from Oppo and Open.
“That doesn’t match the 8.6mm depth of the Galaxy S24 Ultra (and, of course, all these measurements conveniently ignore any camera island protruding from the rear of the phone). However, the difference in thickness will be noticeable when holding a foldable device. The direct comparison between the first and second generations of the Honor Magic foldable device, with the second device being only 10.1mm thick, makes the newer device feel more suitable for a regular smartphone audience.”
It has been reported that the Z Fold 6 design will undergo another change which will make it feel more mainstream. Previous models had a tall and thin cover display which, although Android can accommodate most apps in this space, can feel cramped for the user. Thankfully, the new aspect ratio of the inner display will also impact the space available for the cover display. As a result, the cover display is expected to be closer to the standard size expected by many.
