Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime (2015) — A Budget Favorite, Proudly Made in India
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime Android smartphone was launched in August 2015, and stands out in Xiaomi’s history as one of the first phones completely manufactured in India, built at Xiaomi’s first-ever Indian manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh.
The Redmi 2 Prime shares its design with its predecessor, the Redmi 2, and features a 4.7-inch HD IPS LCD display protected by Asahi DragonTrail Glass, with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 312 ppi. Its textured back cover offers a better grip, while keeping the phone slim and lightweight at just 133 grams.
Under the hood, the phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired with the Adreno 306 GPU, clocked at 1.2 GHz, and comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.
On the camera front, it features an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera for selfies, capable of recording HD video at 1080p on the rear camera and 720p on the front camera. The device supports dual SIM cards, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and FM Radio, rounding out a well-connected package for its time.
Powered by a 2200mAh battery offering up to 14 hours of usage, and running Android 4.4.4 KitKat, the Redmi 2 Prime was available in White, Yellow, Black, Pink, and Green color options — making it a colorful and dependable budget choice for its era.
