Samsung’s next compact flagship is gradually taking shape, with a fresh round of leaks from tipster Saurav on X offering a detailed early look at what to expect from the Galaxy S27. Separately, tipster Tarun Vats has shared additional details confirming that internal software testing for the lineup has already begun.

Display: A Flat, Compact Design

According to Saurav’s leak, the Galaxy S27 is expected to retain a flat AMOLED display, paired with a centered punch-hole camera cutout. The device is being positioned specifically as a compact flagship, continuing Samsung’s approach of offering a smaller-format option within its premium lineup for buyers who prefer a more pocketable device without stepping down to a mid-range phone.

Performance and Memory

On the performance front, the Galaxy S27 is rumored to be powered by either a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro or an Exynos 2700 chipset, depending on region, continuing Samsung’s established dual-chip strategy seen across recent Galaxy generations. The device is expected to include 12GB of RAM, paired with either 256GB or 512GB of storage options.

Memory-wise, the leak points to LPDDR5X RAM alongside UFS 4.1 storage, both representing current high-end memory and storage standards for flagship smartphones.

Battery and Charging

Battery capacity is rumored to land around 4,900mAh, notably using silicon-carbon battery technology rather than traditional lithium-ion chemistry. As mentioned in some of our previous coverage on Samsung’s battery technology plans, silicon-carbon batteries generally allow for higher energy density within the same physical space, potentially delivering strong real-world battery life despite the relatively modest capacity figure compared to larger phones. Charging is rumored to support up to 45W, though this detail remains unconfirmed at this stage.

Camera System

On the camera front, the leak indicates Samsung is currently testing a new Sony main camera sensor for the Galaxy S27, with broader camera upgrades expected across the device compared to its predecessor. Specific details about resolution or additional lens configurations haven’t been revealed yet.

Build and Design

The Galaxy S27 is expected to feature a flat aluminum frame paired with a glass back panel, along with a redesigned camera module compared to previous generations, suggesting Samsung may be refreshing the device’s visual identity alongside its internal hardware upgrades.

Software

On the software side, the Galaxy S27 is expected to ship with Android 17, running the latest version of Samsung’s One UI software on top.

Expected Pricing and Launch Timeline

According to the leak, the Galaxy S27 could carry a starting price of around $999, positioning it as a genuine premium flagship despite its more compact form factor. The device is expected to launch sometime between January and February 2027, following Samsung’s typical early-year release window for its S-series lineup.

If these leaks hold up, the Galaxy S27 could stand out as one of 2027’s strongest compact Android flagships, combining flagship-level performance and camera hardware within a smaller, more manageable form factor than many competing devices.

One UI 9.5 Testing Already Underway

Adding further confirmation that development is progressing, tipster Tarun Vats has reported that Samsung has begun internal testing of One UI 9.5 across the entire Galaxy S27 lineup. According to this leak, model numbers for each device in the series have already been identified:

  • Galaxy S27: SM-S952U
  • Galaxy S27+: SM-S956U
  • Galaxy S27 Pro: SM-S957U
  • Galaxy S27 Ultra: SM-S958U

The report also mentions that placeholder hashes have been spotted within the FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) XML files for the entire S27 lineup, though the specific build version associated with these hashes hasn’t been decrypted yet.

Interestingly, Vats notes that these early One UI 9.5 test builds have appeared somewhat later in the development cycle compared to the previous generation. For comparison, the first One UI 8.5 test build for the Galaxy S26 series was spotted on July 25 last year, suggesting this year’s testing timeline may be running slightly behind the previous cycle, though it’s not yet clear whether this indicates any meaningful delay to the eventual launch itself.

What This Means for the Galaxy S27 Series

Between the detailed hardware leaks from Saurav and the confirmed internal software testing reported by Tarun Vats, it’s clear that Samsung’s development on the Galaxy S27 lineup is actively progressing, even this far ahead of the rumored January-February 2027 launch window. As with all pre-launch leaks, these details remain unconfirmed until Samsung makes an official announcement, and specifications could still shift as development continues.
