Xiaomi Redmi 2 (2015) — A Budget Classic with Surprisingly Strong 4G Support

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 was announced and released in January 2015 as a successor to the original Redmi, bringing 4G LTE connectivity to Xiaomi’s budget lineup for the first time. Though now discontinued, it remains a memorable entry-level device from Xiaomi’s early growth years.

The phone features a compact 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and roughly 312 ppi density, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 on the front, paired with a plastic back and frame for a lightweight, durable feel. It weighs just 133 grams, making it easy to carry and use one-handed.

Under the hood, the Redmi 2 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset with a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 306 graphics, paired with 1GB or 2GB of RAM and 8GB or 16GB of storage, expandable further via a dedicated microSD card slot.

The 8MP rear camera comes with autofocus, LED flash, and HDR support, capable of recording 1080p video, while the 2MP front camera handles basic selfies and video calls. A 2200mAh removable battery kept the phone running through a full day of typical use.

Connectivity options included Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with GLONASS and BDS support, and even stereo FM radio — a nice bonus rarely found on budget phones today. It was available in Black, White, Yellow, Pink, and Green color options, giving buyers plenty of personality to choose from.
