Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 (2015) — A Compact Tablet with Surprising Power
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 was announced in November 2015 as Xiaomi’s compact tablet aimed at users who wanted a portable device for media, browsing, and light productivity. What made it stand out from most Android tablets of its time was its unusual choice of processor.
Instead of the typical ARM-based chipsets found in most tablets, the Mi Pad 2 was powered by an Intel Atom x5-Z8500 processor with Intel HD Graphics, giving it a slightly different performance profile and even allowing certain versions to run Windows 10 alongside Android. It came with 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 64GB of internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD.
The tablet features a 7.9-inch IPS display with a 1536 x 2048 pixel resolution and a sharp 324 ppi pixel density, making text and images look crisp and detailed for its size. On the camera side, it includes an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera for selfies and video calls.
A generous 6190mAh battery kept the Mi Pad 2 running for extended periods between charges, while a USB Type-C port handled both charging and data syncing — a forward-thinking choice at the time. It measured a slim 200.4 x 132.6 x 7mm and weighed 322 grams, making it light and easy to carry. It originally launched in China at a price of around $156.
