Xiaomi Mi 5 — The Flagship That Made Xiaomi a Global Contender

The Xiaomi Mi 5 was released in February 2016 as Xiaomi’s high-end flagship smartphone, arriving after a long wait and immense anticipation from fans. It launched 528 days after the Mi 4, with the delay partly attributed to perfecting the new Snapdragon 820 chip after overheating issues plagued the previous Snapdragon 810.

The Mi 5 features a compact and lightweight design measuring 144.6mm x 69.2mm x 7.3mm and weighing just 129 grams, with a premium double-glazed glass design using Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on both the front and curved rear panel, held together by a silver metal frame.

A 3000mAh battery keeps the device powered throughout the day, and the phone supports fast charging through USB Type-C with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The Mi 5 also stood out as one of the few smartphones to support Apple’s proprietary AirPlay protocol, a unique touch that broadened its appeal among tech enthusiasts.
