Xiaomi Mi 2S (2013) — The Phone That Helped Build Xiaomi’s Reputation
The Xiaomi Mi 2S, also known as the Xiaomi Phone 2S, was a high-end Android smartphone released by Xiaomi in 2013, available in two storage variants — 16GB and 32GB. At a time when Xiaomi was still establishing itself as a serious smartphone maker, the Mi 2S helped prove the brand could deliver flagship-level hardware at a fraction of the price of competitors.
Powering the device was a quad-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, which was considered very capable for its time, delivering smooth performance for browsing, apps, and light gaming. The phone featured a 4.3-inch HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a sharp 342 ppi pixel density, giving it a compact and pocket-friendly design that was popular among Android users in the early 2010s.
On the camera front, the 16GB model came with an 8-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, while the 32GB model stepped up to a 13-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, giving buyers a choice based on their photography needs and budget. A 2-megapixel front camera handled selfies and video calls.
The Mi 2S ran on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with 2GB of RAM and a 2000mAh battery, and supported a single SIM card along with 3G connectivity, USB OTG, Wi-Fi, FM Radio, Bluetooth, and GPS. In China, the device launched at ¥1999 for the 16GB model and ¥2299 for the 32GB model, making it an affordable yet powerful option for its era.
Though it’s now a retro device by today’s standards, the Xiaomi Mi 2S remains a notable part of smartphone history and a favorite among collectors and Android enthusiasts who appreciate Xiaomi’s early journey to becoming a global tech giant.
