Samsung SGH-600 (1999) — A Classic Flip Phone from the Early Mobile Era
The Samsung SGH-600 is a feature phone released in 1999 by Samsung Electronics, designed with a keypad covered by a plastic flap. Coming in a flip form factor, it represents the simplicity and durability of early mobile phone design, long before smartphones became the norm.
The phone features a monochrome graphic display with a resolution of 96 x 32 pixels across 4 lines, and runs on a removable 700mAh battery. Weighing just 95 grams with the battery installed and measuring 108 x 44 x 21mm, the SGH-600 was compact and lightweight even by today’s standards.
It could store up to 100 contacts in its phonebook and kept logs of 10 dialed, 10 received, and 10 missed calls. Additional features included a voice memo function, speed dial, menu shortcuts, a world clock, and a scratch pad memo — practical tools that made it a reliable everyday communicator in its time.
As expected for a phone of its era, it lacked WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a memory card slot, focusing purely on essential calling and messaging functions. The Samsung SGH-600 has since been discontinued and is now considered a piece of mobile phone history, sought after mainly by collectors and retro tech enthusiasts
