Samsung SGH-250 (1996) — A Classic Flip Phone from the Early Days of Mobile
The Samsung SGH-250 is a flip-style feature phone, introduced and released in January 1996, during the very early days of mobile communication. As one of Samsung’s earliest mobile devices, it represents a fascinating piece of mobile phone history for collectors and tech enthusiasts alike.
The phone weighs 179 grams and measures 25mm thick, with overall dimensions of 124.0 x 48.0 x 25.0mm — chunky by today’s standards, but typical of mobile phones from the mid-1990s. It features a simple monochrome display capable of showing 3 lines of 12 characters each, just enough for basic call information and text.
Connectivity was limited to 2G GSM 900 networks, and true to the era, the SGH-250 had no GPRS, Bluetooth, WAP, browser, infrared, or email support — it was built purely for calling and basic texting. There is no camera and no video recording capability on this device.
Power comes from a 700mAh Li-Ion battery, offering simple, no-frills performance with vibration alerts and SMS send/receive support. The phone was discontinued not long after its release, but remains a nostalgic reminder of how far mobile technology has come.
