Samsung Galaxy S7 mini — The Compact Flagship That Never Made It to Market
The Samsung Galaxy S7 mini was an anticipated smartphone that received much speculation in 2016, yet ultimately never officially released by Samsung. Yet its existence remains one of the most compelling topics within their history and among critics alike.
Leaked specifications suggested the Galaxy S7 mini would feature a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 resolution and 479 PPI density for users looking for something smaller and one-handed devices.
Rumored specifications pointed towards a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820/Exynos 8890 Octa chipset coupled with 3GB RAM and 32 or 64GB of storage for optimal performance, and featuring 12MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing camera respectively; powered by 2600mAh battery capacity.
Leaks suggest an always-on display feature on this prototype device; however, without its signature curved edge display found on other Galaxy S7 phones and with no removable battery capacity.
Although the Galaxy S7 mini was never commercialized, its existence remains an intriguing piece of smartphone history; offering us an insight into what might have been an appealing flagship contender back in 2016.
